Accredited training gives an accredited qualification. Yippee! And I do not mean to take anything away from that. As a trainer for the past 19 years I value accredited training, as a business owner and coach for the past 6 years I employ on soft skills, and I advise others to do the same. Soft skills are the skills you can often describe but can’t always put your finger on.
But a good training facilitator will provide so much more than an accredited certificate for a course.
A competent training facilitator will help guide individuals to develop their skills which don’t fit into an accredited model, those skills of judgement, learning from others, developing confidence, maturity, perspective, humility to say….. “I don’t know, let me get back to you), the ability to challenge others respectfully.
This is the problem with courses that I think are all online. Feedback to the student is often a copy/paste affair or stock standard responses.
Real skills are developed when a competent trainer eyeballs participants, when problems of individuals are discussed and solutions debated, challenged, adopted and results seen.
I train by distance but my preferred method is face to face. But a lot can be achieved by phone and by technology where I can visually see the student and they can see me (how much of our communication is by body language/tone etc? some say as much as x%)
If you want the develop yourself or your staff choose a training provider that is engaging, that wants to be in front of students and not provide resources and have a chat by phone. You might get an accredited qualification but for little more investment of capital and time, you get real development.
Criterion Training & Consultancy do exactly that. In front of students, we provide resources for people to work through as self-management is an attribute that we want everyone we work with to develop. But from 19 years of training delivery, nothing gets better results that being with a group of students for engaging delivery, experiencing a variety of synergies and experiencing the content.
Whoever, you chose for your training, learning and development needs, make sure you get more than just an accredited certification – and naturally, we would love to have a chat with you to see if we fit!
